MEET YOUR MAPLE RIDGE CARE TEAM

Our teams bring strong credentials and ongoing professional training, but it’s their personal, everyday approaches that truly define the feeling of home. Below, they share one meaningful way they help residents feel welcomed, known, and genuinely cared for.

Shannon Ashworth

Director of Care
shannon@enhancedliving.ca

"One way that I make them feel at home is to center their plan of care around the resident as a person. By doing this I include their whole person and all of their history that they bring with them when they move in to Maple Ridge. Their social and emotional wellbeing, the things that make them happy and smile, are as important to me as the clinical care we provide."

Dan Gilman

Administrator

"For me, extending respect is at the heart of how I interact with residents. It can be as simple as always asking permission to enter their room and referring to Maple Ridge as their home – not a facility, not a nursing home – their home. We ask residents their opinion on things like menus and activities, as well as checking with them what they need and want."

Enhanced Living - New Brunswick Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the questions we hear most often. We hope these answers help you feel more comfortable as you consider Enhanced Living for yourself or someone you care about.

  • Who We Care For & Levels of Care

What type of residents do you serve?

We support people with multiple levels of care needs. At River Haven, we care for residents at Levels 2, 3G, and 4, which typically means needing more help with daily living and health monitoring.

At Pleasant Grove, we specialize in memory care—supporting residents with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.

At Maple Ridge, we deliver 24-hour nursing care categorized as Level 3A by the Province.

  • Rooms, Personal Belongings & Comfort

Will I have a private room or share with someone else?

Most rooms are shared (double occupancy). If a private room is important to you, let us know—we’ll do our best to meet your preference. (In River Haven they are added to a single room list and it goes by admission date)

Most rooms are private here in Pleasant Grove. We have 18 Private rooms and 4 shared  rooms and 1 Adult Protection.

  • What furniture and furnishings are provided?

We provide the essentials in each room: a bed with mattress, storage for clothing, a night table, and a chair. All linens and towels are provided.

We encourage you to bring items that make you feel more at home—your favorite bedspread, photos, or décor.

  • Meals & Dietary Needs

    What are the meals like?

We follow a four-week rotating menu, which changes for summer and winter. There are three main meals each day (breakfast, lunch, dinner), plus an afternoon snack and a light late snack.

We adjust for dietary needs—diabetic, gluten-free, or other special requirements—and always take residents’ food preferences into account.

  • Costs, Charges & Services

Are there additional fees besides the monthly rate?

Yes, there are some optional or extra services that carry separate fees. For example:

    • Cable TV (basic included; HD or extra channels cost extra)
    • Telephone in the room — any charges are handled by the resident or power of attorney, coordinated through the telephone company.
    • Hairdressing and other personal services (when available) are at additional cost.

    Is internet provided?

Yes — we offer internet access free of charge.

  • Medical Care, Emergencies, & Medications

Is there a doctor on site?

No. While we do not have a full-time doctor in the home, each resident keeps or may keep their own family physician. Our care team is made up of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Personal Support Workers (PSWs).

    How are medications handled?

Licensed Practical Nurses and trained personal support staff administer medications. Prescriptions must come from a physician, and medications are supplied through a pharmacy contracted with the home.

If there’s a medical emergency, what happens?

Should an emergency occur, we call an ambulance and transfer the resident to the nearest hospital: Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton or Oromocto Public Hospital. We also contact family as soon as possible.

  • Daily Life & Freedom

Can I leave for appointments or visits?

Yes. Residents are free to leave for medical appointments, family visits, or errands as long as they are physically and mentally able to do so safely.

    How about laundry?

In River Haven, laundry is done off-site (sent out three times per week to Bellboy).

In Pleasant Grove, laundry is handled on-site by our support staff. Family members just need to label clothing clearly.

  • Visiting & Atmosphere

    What are the visiting hours?

We welcome family and friends of all ages at any time. There are no set visiting hours—our goal is to be as flexible as possible.

Visits may be temporarily restricted only in special circumstances (for example, during a viral outbreak).

  • Resident-Supplied Items & Care Aids

What items will I need to bring?

You’ll need to bring items like clothing, footwear, glasses, dentures, hearing aids, etc. These are personal items that help with mobility and daily living.

    What equipment should I provide?

If needed, you’ll be responsible for items like wheelchairs, walkers, raised toilet seats, commodes, canes, and other aids for safety.
